Overview and Evolution

When we think about sexes in animals, especially vertebrates, we often think along the lines of male and female. That categorization works for a lot of animals a lot of the time. However, nature rarely works with such clearly delineated distinctions. This section will be introduce you to the concept of sequential hermaphroditism, a type of natural sex change. Though not exclusive to them, we will be using teleost fish as a model to understand this phenomenon.
